Identifying the potential of dry fish products, Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) has launched its own brand of dry fish products - Drish Kerala. Rich in Omega 3 fatty acids, the products of Drish Kerala are hygienically processed in UV protected solar cabinet driers. An initiative of Kerala State Coastal Area Development Corporation (KSCADC) along with the Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT) and the National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP), DRISH Kerala aims to capitalise the demand for value-added fish products thereby providing employment opportunities to a large number of women fisher-folk in coastal areas.
A high-end quality product processed as per international standards, Drish Kerala in the initial stage has come up with three variety products named as Neendakara, Ashtamudi and Malabar. Dried and processed at the state-of-the-art facility of KSCADC in Shaktikulangara, Kollam, these products will be the most hygienically packed and natural dry fish available in the market. To support this new initiative, Kerala Government is planning to set up a fully mechanised manufacturing and processing facility to produce varieties of fish products in the state.
